EXECUTIVE-LEVEL PROFILE

The executive is responsible for the leadership and effective management of all correctional operations and services within a level of government

Responsible for:

  • Establishing agency vision and mission
  • Setting clear organizational goals and objectives
  • Building organizational culture to support outcomes
  • Securing resources
  • Managing the external environment
  • Influencing and developing public policy
  • Developing competent and diverse senior-level staff

Examples of executive-level positions:

  • Director of state Department of Corrections
  • Director of a city or county Department of Corrections
  • Federal Bureau of Prisons Regional Director
  • Sheriff
  • Director of state or local Juvenile Department of Corrections
  • Director of state or local probation system
  • Director of paroling authority
  • Deputy director of large system
