ANNOTATION: The purpose of drug courts is to use the authority of the courts to reduce crime by changing offenders' drug-using behaviors. This report describes the key elements of drug courts such as eligibility criteria, treatment phases, and program sanctions. It then assesses the results of six drug court evaluations, focusing particularly on recidivism outcomes.
