ANNOTATION: The primary conclusion of this report is that the effectiveness of Department of Justice funding depends on whether it is directed to the urban neighborhoods where youth violence is highly concentrated. Conclusions about the effectiveness of the local crime prevention practices studied in this project are organized by the seven local institutional settings in which these practices operate: communities, families, schools, labor markets, places, police, and criminal justice.
