ANNOTATION: Electronic equipment capable of procuring, storing, and retrieving mugshots (or facial image) and any scars, marks, or tattoos (SMT) present on a subject's body is being procured by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. The standards presented in this document allow the exchange of identification data across jurisdictional lines or between dissimilar systems, including the data for fingerprints, mugshots, and SMT's.
