ANNOTATION: Currently, crime rates are diminishing while incarceration rates are rising. With increasing incarceration comes increasing costs. Lawmakers mandated to reduce spending are rightfully concerned about how to reduce correctional expenditures while also keeping their communities safe from crime. This report offers some insight into this complex issue.
