ANNOTATION: Telemedicine is quickly becoming a practical method for health care delivery. The use of telemedicine in prisons offers some promising outcomes like reduced cost while offering quality health care. This report covers an evaluation of a telemedicine demonstration in a prison network of three Federal prisons in Pennsylvania, one Kentucky medical center, and the VA Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Benefits of the telemedicine program included substantial savings, shorter waiting times, access to specialty care not previously available, and fewer grievances about health care.
