When They Get Out

Publication year: 1999 | Cataloged on: Oct. 31, 2006
ANNOTATION: Prisons were established to fight crime. Instead, this author believes that prisons produce crime. Comments are based upon the following: the life of Robert Scully; a visit to the Estelle Unit's administrative segregation cells; sociology research of William Sabol, Bruce Western, and Katherine Beckett; remarks of Eddie Ellis, a onetime Black Panther, and Edmond Taylor, both ex-convicts. This article is a sequel to one called "The Prison-Industrial Complex" by Eric Schlosser (Accession number 015804).
