ANNOTATION: General and standard recidivism rates are examined along with how certain offender characteristics and other factors can affect recidivism. Released individuals since July 1993 have a recidivism rate of 33.8%. Juvenile offenders (under 18 years old) recidivate at 51.3%. Some of the factors that affect recidivism and related rates (at 2 years after release) include: tested education level under grade 4 -- 39.1%; prior reoffenses (two or more)--55.6%; and property and drug offenses -- 39.4% and 37.1% respectively (compared to violent offenses -- 25.7%).
