Adult Male Offenders in Canada: Recent Trends

ANNOTATION: Between 1992 to 1997, there was a decrease in the rate of adult males charged by police from 413 per 10,000 adult male population to 311 per 10,000. Decreases were seen in property crimes, violent crimes, and drug offenses. Adult males processed through the courts decreased during 1994-1997 from 338 to 312 per 10,000. The mean age of male involvement with crime is 32. The national rate of violent crime declined from 107 to 88 per 10,000 during the period of 1992-1997. Prison, probation, restitution, and fine dispositions remained stable.
