A Multi-Site Study of Treatment for Abusive Men=Etude de divers programmes de traitement pour hommes violents

Publication year: 2000 | Cataloged on: Oct. 31, 2006
ANNOTATION: The relative effectiveness of four treatment programs (eclectic, feminist/psych-educational, humanistic-existential, and cognitive-behavioral) for abusive men were studied. "Outcome was assessed by new arrests for violence after an average 58 month follow-up period. There was little difference in recidivism rates across programs despite substantial differences in treatment philosophies. . .The highest recidivism rate was observed in the program that had the weakest program implementation [pro-feminist]. In general, the batterer recidivists tended to have the same lifestyle problems associated with recidivism among general offenders (substance abuse, frequent moves, prior convictions) (p.ii)."
