Integrating Family-Focused Interventions Into the Criminal Justice System

Publication year: 1999 | Cataloged on: Oct. 31, 2006
ANNOTATION: Substance abusers have the highest parole failure rates and are most likely to be repeat offenders. La Bodega de la Familia is testing a new substance abuse treatment program for adult offenders called family case management. This treatment methodology integrates families, criminal justice agencies, and healthcare providers into a network that supports substance abusing offenders and their families as addictions are overcome. This family-focused intervention is an effective alternative to relying upon incarceration to treat relapse and recidivism. A description of family case management and how it can be applied in other criminal justice agencies is provided.
