ANNOTATION: An "additional 14,662 prison beds or a combination of policies to increase capacity and divert offenders from prison that is equivalent to the number of beds needed" is Texas' projected need by August 2005 (p. i). This report examines the factors affecting this increase in demand for space such as fewer prison releases, increased State Jails admissions, and increased parole revocations. Options to meet this demand are also discussed such as alternatives to parole and probation revocations to prison and various parole supervision choices.
