The Supervised Pretrial Release Primer. Draft

Publication year: 1999 | Cataloged on: Oct. 31, 2006
ANNOTATION: Supervised pretrial release (SPR) is an effective way for higher risk defendants to be safely supervised in the community. SPR can also be an important part of a jail crowding reduction strategy. This guide describes the development and implementation of SPR in a question-and-answer format. Some of the 16 questions answered include: how does SPR differ from pretrial release alternatives; what are the advantages of active supervision; what types of supervised release conditions are currently used; and has the impact of SPR been evaluated. Also included is a check list for new SPR programs.
