ANNOTATION: Characteristics of potential problems of and guidelines for family group conferencing (FGC) models used in New Zealand and Australia and replicated in some U.S. communities are presented. Issues addressed include: the history of FGC; similarities and differences between FGC and victim-offender mediation (VOM; five potential dangers of FGC; eight guidelines for FGC; concluding observations; and what is restorative justice.
