Principles described include: use of force; complaints and misconduct investigations; promotion of accountability and effective management; training; non-discriminatory policing and data collection; and recruitment, hiring, and retention. Also included are examples of promising police practices and policies, with full text planned to be available through the Office of Justice Programs' website. The promising policies and practices cover areas such as general use of force, positional asphyxia, pepper spray, and prevention of harassment.
