Education and work programs provided to juvenile offenders in prison "to improve their chances of becoming law-abiding citizens upon release" are described (p. 1). The 16-hour daytime Extended Day Program for Youthful Offenders provides at least 12-hours of activities from among the following: mandatory literacy, adult basic education (ABE), general education development (GED), special education, Title I -- supplementary education services, transition skills, general library and law library services, volunteer literacy education, and vocational/applied technology courses.
