ANNOTATION: Results from an assessment of post-release outcomes of inmates released from BOP custody are presented. Following an executive summary, this report has chapters about: background and report organization; a review of recent studies of high intensity adult correctional drug treatment programs -- the problem of selection bias and possible solutions; a review of gender differences among substance abusers; description of drug treatment programs and services; research design; description of sample; treatment entry and completion; analysis and results; and summary and conclusions. Male inmates who received and completed treatment were 16% less likely to recidivate. Results were not statistically significant for female inmates.
