ANNOTATION: Statistical models that would predict length of stay and whether an offender is to be placed in prison or the community in order to classify individuals for a drug treatment program of 45 days or more are examined. The following chapters are contained: introduction, analytic approach, and method; logistic regression analysis of outcome and length of stay at Rikers; and conclusions. An appendix provides information on how to implement the models. Prison-bound inmates were successfully identified 60% of the time, while community-bound inmates were identified 90% of the time.
