ANNOTATION: Statistics regarding defendant processing at different stages of the Federal criminal justice system are presented. Some of the highlights from this report include: 30% of those arrested for possible violation of Federal law were investigated for drug offenses, 22% for immigration offenses, 15% for property offenses, 15% for supervision violations, 4% for violent offenses, and 4% to secure and safeguard a material witness; declinations of matters concluded decreased from 36% during 1994 to 26% during 2000; and Federal community supervision included 64% on supervised release, 31% on probation, and 5% on parole.
