ANNOTATION: The need for effective transition services to help newly released offenders overcome drug use and crime in order to successfully reintegrate into their communities is explored. Issues briefly addressed by this document include: the vital need for transition services; the organization and provision of effective transition services; the challenges corrections faces in providing transition services; community-based services; innovative programs and strategies, such as the Tarzana Treatment Center, Project Bridge, and CDC/HRSA Corrections Demonstration Projects that are addressing the problem; and resources for more information about this issue.
