ANNOTATION: Findings from a survey regarding community corrections officer use of 12-step programs by offenders on their caseloads for alcohol or drug abuse are presented. Results are grouped into topical areas about position and caseload, level of problem, 12-step participation, 12-step recommendations, 12-step availability, monitoring of 12-step use, 12-step helpfulness, officer knowledge of 12-step, improvements, and training. The majority of respondents (83.2%) felt that attendance of the offender at 12-step meetings was helpful, while 47% of the officers would be interested in additional training on topics related to 12-step programming.
