A National Study Comparing the Environments of Boot Camps to Traditional Facilities for Juvenile Offenders. Final Report

ANNOTATION: Environmental components of boot camps and more traditional juvenile facilities are measured, analyzed, and compared utilizing factor analysis and 14 environmental scales. Findings are presented for: juvenile perceptions; staff perceptions; comparison of juvenile and staff perceptions; individual adjustment and change; summary of perceptions and change; policies, procedures, and institutional records; and pilot study using video to access the environment of juvenile facilities. Juveniles and staff consistently believe that boot camps are better in most aspects than traditional facilities.
