Understanding Employment: A Prospective Exploration of Factors Linked to Community-Based Employment Among Federal Offenders

Publication year: 2001 | Cataloged on: Oct. 31, 2006
ANNOTATION: Andrews' personal-interpersonal-community-reinforcement perspective (PIC-R) on criminal conduct is examined as it relates to offender employment. The PIC-R model, using a social learning framework, was used to predict the community employment status of offenders during the first six months of their conditional release. Intention, the offenders' belief that they will find and keep jobs, was the primary predictor of employment outcomes. Implications associated with this finding and others are also explored in this article.
