ANNOTATION: An analysis of and recommendations for medical supply and drug procurement by the state's Department of Corrections are presented. Following an executive summary, this report addresses the following three observations and provides recommendations for more effective operations: procurement of the state's drugs and medical supplies should be further improved by the Department of General Services; increasing expenditures for drugs need to be reined in; and the successful automation of pharmacy must be realized. Appendixes provide a table of the state's top 50 drug purchases by prime vendor, and agency progress towards pharmacy operation recommendation implementation from the 2000 Audit Report.
