ANNOTATION: Recent efforts to reconcile the sentencing disparities between crack cocaine and powder cocaine are reviewed. This briefing paper discusses: the difference between crack and powder cocaine; violence and the myth of the "crack baby"; drug quantities and crack cocaine penalties; the evolution of cocaine sentencing disparity; race and class in cocaine law and enforcement; and reforming the crack cocaine and powder cocaine sentencing disparity.
