ANNOTATION: Post-release recidivism and institutional behavior of Methadone Maintenance Treatment (MMT) participants are investigated. Sections comprising this report include: an executive summary; introduction regarding the difference between heroin and methadone, effects of MMT, and purpose/rationale; methodology; results organized by release outcome (e.g., survival, fixed follow-up, revocations, new offenses, and summary) and by group characteristics (e.g., demographics, current offense, summary, and pre to post MMT changes in behavior); and discussion and implications. MMT participants are 28% less likely to be returned to custody than non-participant heroin abusers.
