Families as a Resource in Recovery from Drug Abuse: An Evaluation of La Bodega de la Familia

ANNOTATION: The impact of an experimental program that "engages both substance abusers and their family members in family case management and other services as a supplement to probation, parole, or pre-trial supervision" is examined (p. iii). An introduction, the following four chapters, and a discussion comprise this report: the problem; the response; the research; and results regarding improvements for family members, supportive relationships, effects on drug users, perspectives of Bodega, the family case manager and the hotline, family pressure, family communication and emotional attachment, family influences on drug use in the comparison group, criminal justice involvement, and family relationships. Recidivism during the study period was 11% for Bodega users while the rate for the comparison group was 21%.
