ANNOTATION: Results from a survey regarding the procedure for newly-released inmates to obtain proper identification are presented. Sections of this report include: background; methodology -- Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) survey and Department of Corrections (DOC) survey; summary of findings; summary of state information -- require DMV to exchange DOC-issued ID for state ID, accept some form of DOC documentation as primary proof of identity, accept some form of DOC documentation as secondary proof of identify, disconnect between requirements and cooperation of DMV with DOC, and DMVs accepting no form of DOC documentation; innovative pilot projects; and recommendations.
