ANNOTATION: Issues surrounding lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning (LGBTQ) youth in the juvenile justice system are addressed. This document is comprised of two parts: how LGBTQ youth enter the system; and the experiences of this special population with the juvenile justice system. In general, GLBTQ youth are disproportionately represented in the system due to society's propensity for homophobia and transphobia. Neglect and discrimination affect many LGBTQ youth once they are in the system.
