The Problem of Prison Rape
Publication year:
2004
| Cataloged on:
Oct. 31, 2006
ANNOTATION: An article that focuses upon the case of Roderick Johnson who was repeatedly raped in the Allured Unit (Iowa Park, TX) in order to illustrate the problem of rape in prisons can be accessed at the website below. In addition to Johnson's suit against the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, this piece discusses: the prevalence of prison rape -- more rapes occur in prison each year than in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York combined; the misguided traditional rationale; Bask v. City and County of San Francisco; and humor and indifference to the plight of victims.
