ANNOTATION: Guidelines for complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) while providing services to deaf or hard of hearing juvenile offenders are provided. Requirements include: seek the earliest possible notice that a juvenile has a hearing impairment; conduct assessments promptly at intake; ensure availability of auxiliary aids and services; procedures for acquiring interpreting services; provide accessible telephones, visual alarms, and closed captioning; and the appointment of an ADA Coordinator and the provision of ADA training.
