ANNOTATION: A comprehensive statistical overview of the problems of juvenile crime, violence, and victimization and the response of the juvenile justice system" is presented (p. 1). Some of the findings are: state custody rates ranged from 96 to 632 per 100,000 juveniles; custody rates were highest for African-Americans; females accounted for 13% of juveniles in residential placement; most youth sent to adult prisons are 17 years old, males, minorities, and person offenders; and Texas, Florida, and Alabama account for more than 50% of offenders under 18 sentenced to death.
