Publication year: 2003 | Cataloged on: Oct. 31, 2006
ANNOTATION: The issue of whether ex-offenders released from private prison recidivate less than releasees from public prisons is investigated. This report is comprised of sections on: introduction; prior studies of private/public inmate recidivism; data source; recidivism measures; control variables; data set limitations; experimental and control group selection; three prison release cohorts; statistical analysis; results -- adult males, adult females, and youthful offender males; and summary and conclusions. Re-imprisonment and re-offense rates are "essentially the same" for all inmate groups.
