Alternative Incarceration Programs

Publication year: 2004 | Cataloged on: Oct. 31, 2006
ANNOTATION: An overview of "intensive prison programs offered by the Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) to selected inmates who are at risk of reoffending due to untreated addictions and criminal thinking" is provided (p. 1). This document discusses: the prevention of future criminal behavior by alternative incarceration programs; Oregon's three alternative incarceration programs -- Summit Program, Turning Point, and New Directions Addictions Program; eligibility criteria; the selection process; and the requirement of active participation. The programs each have three phases: in-prison programming, followed by a "transitional leave" phase, successful completion of which may result in sentence reduction, and finally, parole supervision.
