ANNOTATION: The effect of the specialized misdemeanor domestic violence (DV) court created in 2000 is determined. Sections contained in this report are: introduction; methodology; overview of differences between 1998 and 2001 in the processing of domestic violence cases in Manhattan; models predicting likelihood of conviction; models predicting likelihood of incarceration; models predicting length of jail sentence; models predicting likelihood of re-arrest; conclusion; statistical methods; and coding of variables for regression models. The specialized DV Criminal Court does not change case dispositions or average length of jail sentences, but does change sentence outcomes and re-arrest rates.
