ANNOTATION: The connection between drug and alcohol use and criminal offending is examined. This report contains an executive summary and the following nine chapters: overview of drug use among women in Australia; women, drugs, and crime; characteristics of the women interviewed; linking drugs and crime; temporal order of drug use and crime; risk factors for drug use and offending; alcohol and crime; indigenous offenders; and conclusions and policy implications. It seems that "for a substantial portion of female offenders [66%], illegal drug use plays a role in shaping onset into a criminal career" (p. xiv).
