ANNOTATION: A review of research which examines the impact of race upon sentencing can be found at this website. Sections of this report are: introduction; direct racial discrimination; interaction of race/ethnicity with other offender characteristics; interaction and indirect effects of race/ethnicity; interaction of race of the offender with race of the victim; interaction of race/ethnicity and type of crime; capital punishment; and conclusion. "Contemporary, methodically rigorous evidence indicates that racial bias continues to pervade the U.S. criminal justice sentencing system" (p. 17).
