ANNOTATION: Testimony from invited witnesses regarding safety failures, abuses, what's know about the most serious problems, sources of and significant gaps in knowledge, violence inside correctional facilities, and excessive use of force is offered. Transcripts are organized into the following areas: opening statements; accounts of prison life; what we know, how we know it, and gaps in our knowledge -- a panel of system "insiders" and a panel of system "outsiders"; and violence and excessive use of force by officers -- witness panel and roundtable discussion panel.
