ANNOTATION: Recommended changes to federal sentencing statutes due to "Blakely v. Washington" and "U.S. v. Booker" are provided. "Blakely v. Washington" found a maximum sentence increased by a judge to be a violation of the Sixth Amendment right to trial by jury. The Blakely verdict was found to apply to Federal Sentencing Guidelines in "U.S. v. Booker."
