ANNOTATION: Reforms needed to address overcrowding in Alabama Department of Corrections' prisons are explained. Crucial reforms in order of importance are: sentencing reform legislation; improved criminal justice information systems and data exchange; alternative means of punishment and correction; expansion of prison industries and full utilization of work release beds; construction of additional beds; and drug treatment.
