ANNOTATION: Information regarding rape victimization is presented. This report contains these sections: about this report (summary); introduction; what the National Violence Against Women Survey (NVAWS) is; prevalence and incidence of rape; rape prevalence among minority populations; rape prevalence by age; characteristics of rape victims, rapists, and rape incidents; injury and health outcomes; victims' involvement in the justice system; and questions for further research. Only 19.1% of women report their rape to the police. Less than half of the women who report their rape were satisfied with the way the police (47.7%) or the courts (48.6%) treated them.
