Drug Abuse, Treatment, and Probationer Recidivism

ANNOTATION: The relationship between probationer drug use and recidivism along with drug treatment participation and completion is examined. Sections following an executive summary are: introduction; data; measures; analyses; results according to sample characteristics, effect of drug abuse on the likelihood and timing of recidivism, and the need for treatment, treatment provision, treatment completion, and recidivism; and conclusions. Probationers who completed treatment have recidivism rates of 12% at year one and 37% at year four, while non-drug abuse probationers have recidivism rates of 20% at year one and 44% at year four.
