ANNOTATION: The effectiveness of batterer programs and of judicial monitoring are examined. Seven chapters follow an executive summary: introduction; previous research on batterer programs and judicial monitoring; research design and methodology; results from the randomized trial -- official records; results from the randomized trial - -victim interviews; results for the impact of judicial monitoring; and conclusion and policy implications. The main findings from this study show that neither batterer programs nor judicial monitoring reduce re-abuse rates.
