Publication year:
2006
| Cataloged on:
Oct. 31, 2006
ANNOTATION: Results from community focus group discussions in three Cleveland reighborhoods that are home to many released prisoners are presented. This report is comprised of the following sections: introduction; background; focus group findings for returning prisoners' experiences of transition, family support, community support, prisoners' preparedness for reentry, neighborhood change, impact of returning prisoners on the community, community awareness and local leadership, roles and responsibilities, returning prisoners then and now, and ideas for improving prisoner reentry; and conclusion. "The findings indicate that community residents participating in our focus groups perceive former prisoners' inability to secure work and housing and to provide for their basic needs as key obstacles to successful reentry" (p. 22).
