ANNOTATION: The status of women in positions of state leadership during 1998-2005 is investigated. Sections of this report are: highlights; notes on methodology; women remain significantly underrepresented in state government leadership positions; some progress achieved by women within each branch of government; tokenism surpassed by women justices on most highest state courts; and a gender gap still persists in state policy leadership.
