ANNOTATION: The incorporation of criminal case processing into the offender reentry process is explained. This policy brief contains these sections: introduction; reentry and reintegration -- the prevailing model, redefining reentry, six-stage reentry model, and reasons for a six-stage approach; reintegration-focused sentencing model -- reintegration as a sentencing goal and a reason for hope or impending disaster; and conclusion. This proposed model utilizes six stages (i.e., pretrial detention, plea bargaining and sentence negotiations, sentencing, prison (self-development and preparation for reentry), release after serving sentence, and parole revocation).
