ANNOTATION: Pretrial release outcomes for New York City's misdemeanor domestic violence cases are compared to non-domestic violence cases. This Brief covers: release outcomes -- arraignment release decisions, calculating bail amounts, and pretrial misconduct; factors associated with pretrial misconduct for domestic violence defendants; a comparison of predictors of FTA (failure to appear) with predictors of re-arrest for a new domestic violence offense; policy implications for reducing FTA and re-arrests for new domestic violence offenses; and summary. The risk of pretrial misconduct is a significant problem among domestic violence defendants.
