Five Reasons Why Judges Should Become More Involved in Establishing, Leading, and Participating on Collaborative, Policy-Focused Teams

Publication year: 2006 | Cataloged on: Dec. 04, 2006
ANNOTATION: "The following discussion outlines five principal reasons why judicial leadership and participation on [collaborative, policy-focused] teams is critical to the successful investigation and resolution of complex issues" (p. 1). Reasons elaborated on are: in order to make meaningful progress on difficult issues, the unique perspective of the judge must be shared in an appropriate context with others; other shareholders may come to the table if there is judicial participation; the leadership of judges is needed for collaborative, inter-entity groups; participation on collaborative teams can be entirely consistent with a judge's ethical responsibilities; and collaborative teams are more successful in achieving meaningful outcomes when judges are involved.
