ANNOTATION: A job analysis that "identif[ies] the work performed, and the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics (KSAOs) that are important for PO [Probation Officer] positions throughout the state [of California], regardless of agency or setting" is presented (p. 1). This report contains the following sections: introduction; method; analysis and results for characteristics of the sample, descriptive statistics, similarity between incumbent and supervisor ratings, identification of core job descriptions, and linking core tasks to critical KSAOs; and summary and conclusions. "A total of 37 KSAOs have been shown to be necessary at entry, important for successful job performance, and related to core and critical major activities and tasks" (p. 34).
