ANNOTATION: Results from an assessment of federally-funded jail diversion programs for offenders with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders are presented. This article is comprised of these sections: abstract; background; methodology; major findings regarding participants, 12-month outcomes, and cost data; and conclusion. Time spent in jail was reduced by an average of two months for diverted participants.
